My First Crush: Misadventures in Wine Country
When Linda Kaplan’s husband quit his law firm in Des Moines and bought Panther Creek, a vineyard in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Kaplan went along for the ride, though she couldn’t tell an earthy wine with a hint of cherries from a glass of grape juice. It didn’t matter: They were going to make pinot noir in a small town, and they would learn how or go crazy trying. Kaplan wryly reveals in her memoir that the result was a bit of both.
There are chapters on the science of wine, on the oddballs who show up for harvest, on telling a good grape from a great grape, and a good wine from a great wine. Kaplan sheds light on the mysteries of marketing wine, the connoisseurs who like to test the newcomers, and the messy business of stomping grapes barefoot. There’s even a recipe for making thirty-six thousand bottles of Panther Creek’s fine pinot noir.
But Kaplan wasn’t only learning about wine. She was also learning about life, about getting along in her new hometown, McMinnville, which seems ripped right from the script of television’s Northern Exposure. Panther Creek has since become an award-winning vineyard, its wine on Wine Spectator magazine’s list of the Top 100 Wines of the World.

This is a book that I will re-read as there was much information that I could use over and over. Definitions, relationships between grape and final product, explainations of wine content and chemical content. Not to mention a GREAT read!

If you live in the Northwest and have any interest in wine, this is a book for you! It is what I call a "great read"(a "must" read if you will). It captures the flavor of real winemaking with a background of facts (vines, soils, geology, geography, climate and latitude), a sustained taste of optimism with a strong aroma of humor throughout. Real people, real places, real wine--this book is the real deal! Try it, you'll like.

In my business, I receive a lot of requests for endorsements, but accept only those I deem the best. And I jumped on this request immediately. It could not be more appropriate for my audience.
I agree with the reviewer from Seattle who described this as a great reference book - both for its informed health information and its storehouse of healthy gourmet recipes (no those are NOT compatible).
Not just for wine lovers? No, this is a great source book for those wondering whether wine can be beneficial to their health. The answer is yes it is beneficial, if consumed daily and in moderation. And that's good news for all of us.

Being an active and health conscious individual, I was looking for a realistic weight loss plan that would suit my urban lifestyle. After reading the "Wine Lovers..." I've found what I was looking for. This book provides a food and wine education surrounding the lifestyle choices of those in the Mediterranean. The "Wine Lovers..." author(s) are passionate, well-informed, and educated. Their enthusiasm for food and wine spills gracefully onto the pages of this book. The "Wine Lovers..." also boasts quality recipes far above the standard for diet books. It's like having a gourmet cookbook inside a diet book! I urge anyone who is looking for a lifestyle change, trying to lose weight, or who simply desires the richness and fulfillment of wine to consider this book for purchase.

Concepts in Wine Technology
This is the companion book to the author's best selling Concepts In Wine Chemistry. It is a successor to his original Winery Technology & Operations. Since the author published his first book in 1990, he has shifted much of his time from research and teaching to operating his own small winery and consulting world-wide with other winemakers. Thus, this new text has a very practical and applied science character. In addition there have been significant discoveries and technological advances in winemaking since the original text. The enlarged sections on fermentation, skin contact, acid balance, the use of oak, phenolics and quality control reflect and expand upon the original text.
This is a "how-to" book, organized in the sequence of the processes a winemaker faces when confronted with the rapid challenge of converting fresh grapes into good wine. As the author points out, the grapes will make wine by themselves due to natural biological and chemical processes. However, to make good wine or even great wine, nature must be guided by the skilled and artful hand of the winemaker.
The author's many years of experience in producing many different wines helps the reader focus on the right processes at the right time to achieve winemaking success. This book stands on the shoulders of the original highly acclaimed text and again it can be said: "Don't make wine without it"!

I purchased this book for my wife. She said that it was very well written and very hot.

and quite frankly, I am having trouble finishing.
I LOVE Susan Johnson's historical romances. They are always well developed, hot and steamy. I love her historic novels so much that I purchase her books whenever I see one I don't currently own without knowing anything about the story.
There are three solid things I know and have come to expect from her books.
1) The guy will always be hot
2) It will be well written, character development, plot, etc.
3) So steamy you'll need your man or device.
So far, this book only has one of the two. The guy is hot (looking), but his character is so flat that I can't feel him.
Other issues? I feel like I'm reading an amateur novelist's first time in print. There is absolutely no feeling between the main characters. No indication that they feel anything other than the need to get laid by a beautiful face.
The verse is so choppy and feels so forced that its not even entertaining. I'm hoping it will get better, but it has that Gilmore Girls, choppy dialect feel going on and that is so not sexy.

Parker's guide currently available came out some time already and does not cover the latest vintages, but the book is still an incredible source of information about wine-making, geographical regions etc. It's as if we were buying a few good books in one. You have over 1,600 pages in the book! As such, it offers very good value, especially at the discounted price at which it's available now. It is especially useful for people interested in European wines, as it does not cover New World brands in such detail as it does, for example, French or German wines. I strongly recommend the book not just to wine buyers but also to people who want to know more about wines. No other book offers so much at this price. Personally, I treat the reviews as guidelines only though; You may not necessarily like the wines Parker likes, or you may not necessarily be able to afford them. The book does not cover the cheapest lot 
Customer Review: A Brilliant Wine Buying Guide
This book is a wine buying guide, pure and simple, by one of the most highly recognized wine critics of our generation. Put the man aside whether or not you agree with his rating systems and the impact they have had on the price structure of wine. Instead, focus you attention on the purpose of the review, his book. 1635 pages in which he rates wines from the greatest producers on Earth over the past decade. His descriptions make you want to run right out and purchase a bottle to have with dinner. His rating scores are right on and there is no reason to doubt them. Very well done in 2002, this work is very much out of date today.
